Barbie or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Doll

Matthew here. @loveandsprockets and i went to an opening weekend movie for the first time in a while and chose her holy pinkness: Barbie. With Greta Gerwig at the helm and Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling leading the way, i was very intrigued even knowing little about the toy icon.

This movie is going to win awards. Its funny, witty, creative and highly entertaining. Besides all that though, it has a powerful message.

Review: Gleaming the Cube

 

Gleaming the Cube (1989)

 

So last night Sherry gave me the remote and told me to pick something to watch and then teased me to her friend about how ill spend an hour just scrolling through #Netflix and not pick anything. So i opened #PrimeVideo and landed on Gleaming the Cube. 

 

I saw this movie in the theater with some friends in the neighborhood when it came out with the thought it would be full of awesome skating and acting from star Christian Slater and Tony Hawk. This movie is not exactly that. In fact, its very different than that. Is it an amazingly great movie? No. Is it full of 80s movie tropes with teenage rebellion, adults who wont listen and emotionally charged montages? Absolutely. Personal opinion: not as good as Thrashin’ but just as cheesy.

Review: Halloween Ends

Keeping with tradition, i just finished watching Halloween Ends and (this could be the high from the Dodger’s losing talking) i‘m very satisfied. Not what i expected but a welcoming end to the series and possibly the franchise. - Matthew

Review: Netflix Teen Comedies

 

Netflix Teen Comedies

 

So my wife and I checked out these two teen comedies. What drew us to them was the music theme in both. Both have moments of cheesiness but the moral in the endings are good and for good background laughs and heartwarming scenes I’d recommend checking these out. The music really stands out though. Mixtape covers many genres while Metal Lords is clearly engrossed with Heavy Metal with cameos from metal greats and Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine as a producer. So if you just want to check out some great music, put these movies on and enjoy.

REVIEWS!

Matthew here and I have a couple short reviews for a couple movies I’ve watched lately.

 

The Batman: 3 of 5 stars. Too long but great casting and i didn’t like the ending. Good start to a new Batman franchise though.

 

The VVitch: 4 of 5 stars. Its a slow burn but the directing is good and the ending is awesome. Great jump scares too.

 

The Lords of Salem: 4 of 5 stars. By far my favorite Rob Zombie movie. Not a fan of gorefest movies. This is Rob doing his best Kubrick.

 

Dr. Strange 2: 4 of 5 stars. Loved what Sam Raimi did here and all the Marvel movies are pretty fun…

 

…Except…

 

The Eternals: 0 stars. I could go on and on about how boring this movie is but I’m bored just thinking about it.

 

Lastly,

 

Pig: 5 of 5 stars. Its simple. Great acting and directing. It’ll make you hungry. Also, im not a nic cage fan but this might be his best role.
